LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Tooth Fairy's payments to U.S. children who leave teeth under their pillow varies according to the state where they live.

According to a poll from Affordable Dentures and Implants, kids looking forward to a visit from the tooth fairy can expect more in Kentucky than in Indiana, with an average price of $4.41 per tooth.

Meanwhile, Indiana tooth fairies only shell out an average of $2.83, according to the research.

The survey shows most "tooth fairies" say they would shell out about twice what they were given growing up.

The most generous place in the U.S. is Washington, DC, where kids get an average of $5.88 per tooth.

Dr. Jumoke Adedoyin, the chief clinical officer at Affordable Dentures & Implants, has advice for kids looking to increase their haul.

"Encourage young children to take good care of their teeth throughout the year by brushing twice a day, flossing regularly and visiting their dentist for regular check-ups. By doing this, you will not only help them maintain a healthy smile but may also make the Tooth Fairy a little more inclined to leave a generous surprise as a special reward for their good oral hygiene practices."
