LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman who made an impact in the bourbon industry was honored Saturday.

A street sign was unveiled in honor of Elmer Lucille Allen.

The 93-year old made history in 1966 as the first Black chemist at Brown-Forman and started the Louisville Arts Council.

The street was dedicated as Elmer Lucille Allen Way and is located at Winnrose Way and Fairland Place in the Chickasaw neighborhood.

Several people she hasn't seen for years stopped by and wished her a Happy Birthday.

"What is so nice is I built here over 60 years ago, and I am still here," Allen said. "To see everyone to come out today to celebrate my 94 birthday, and I can still walk, that says a lot."

Allen said the secret to her longevity is she never drank or smoked.
