Copper wire thefts are knocking out streetlights, damaging churches and threatening critical city services — and now, city leaders say they’re fighting back with new tools, tougher laws and a public awareness campaign.
Louisville officials pushed for a new law that makes it a felony to tamper with or damage critical infrastructure in Kentucky.
The new ordinance makes possessing stolen infrastructure wiring—such as copper wiring—a Class A misdemeanor.
