It has been a strange build-up to Kentucky Derby week at Churchill Downs, because most of the building has been for next year.
The road to the 149th Kentucky Derby takes many horses across the United States. From New York to Florida to California and in between, trainers gear up their horses in prep races to build up points and qualify for a trip to Churchill Downs.
With the defection of Skinner, the field is down to 19 starters.
