LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Derby Festival's "symbol of the spring season" will roll out this weekend.

Pegasus Pins will be available in stores starting Saturday.

This year marks the 53rd edition of the iconic pins, which serve as admission to KDF events leading up to the Kentucky Derby.

This year's design says "Happy Derby," which KDF officials said pays homage to the popular phrase often used to commemorate the Derby season. The circular-shaped pins feature two shades of pink and highlight the Pegasus symbol.

"The Pegasus Pin isn't just a symbol of the Kentucky Derby Festival, it's your passport to fun this spring," Matt Gibson, KDF president and CEO, said in a news release Thursday. "Pegasus Pins mean free admission to more than 30 of our events."

The pins can be found at grocery stores, gas stations, banks and other retail outlets throughout Kentuckiana.

Weekly grand prizes will be given away over the course of eight weeks, and any Pegasus Pin can win. To be eligible for the drawings, fans need to register their pins online.

The Gold winner Pegasus Pins will also return this year. Those who find the gold pin and register it online will have a chance to win a $20,000 cash Gold Pin Grand Prize. KDF said there are more than 18,000 gold pins in the rotation, making the odds of winning the cash prize 1 in 13.

The pins are $7 each when purchased in store. You can also purchase them at KDF events for $10.
