LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The solar eclipse happens in April, and now you can score a free pair of glasses to safely view it compliments of WDRB and Scooter's Coffee.
The peak spectacle on April 8 will last up to 4 minutes, 28 seconds in the path of total darkness — twice as long as the total solar eclipse that dimmed U.S. skies in 2017.
The specially-designed shades became available at all local area Scooter's Coffee locations on March 1. Customers who buy a specialty drink or Scooot! Energy! drink will receive one free pair.
Additional eclipse glasses can be purchased for $2 each. There is a limit of four additional pairs per visit.
The glasses feature WDRB Meteorologists Marc Weinberg and Jude Redfield.
Scooter's has several area locations, including 4703 Dixie Highway, 9060 Dixie Highway, 4036 Poplar Level Road, 11506 Shelbyville Road, 9248 Westport Road, and 110 Marketplace Drive.
Net proceeds will go to the Kentucky Science Center.
The WDRB eclipse glasses comply with the International Standards Organization's safety standards.
