The shooting came on the heels of a day that had police on high alert with the potential of counter-protesters, but ultimately remained peaceful until the shooting occurred around 9 p.m.
Witnesses told police they saw Steven Lopez, 23, fire multiple shots into the crowd of demonstrators around 9 p.m., according to Lopez's arrest report.
LMPD says overnight camping will not be allowed in Jefferson Square Park following a shooting that killed one person and injured another.
