Many in the community took to social media to voice concerns after the announcement was made Wednesday morning.
Shields she comes to Louisville after resigning from Atlanta's police department in June 2019 after the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks, a Black man whom police shot and killed during a struggle in a Wendy's parking lot.
If selected, recruits will go through six months and more than 1,000 hours of training.
