LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man is dead after a road rage incident escalated to gunfire in Carroll County, Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police were dispatched to assist on a road rage incident Saturday about 7:05 p.m. on Interstate 71, according to KSP Post 5 Trooper Chad Johnson in a news release.

An initial investigation revealed two cars were driving on Interstate 71 and got off exit 43, KY 389. One of the two drivers involved was on the phone with Carroll County dispatch and said the other driver was "displaying a firearm," KSP Trooper Johnson said.

As the two cars were traveling on KY 389, the incident escalated, and shots were fired.

The driver of one of the cars, a man, was shot by the other driver. The man was pronounced dead and later identified by the Carroll County Coroner as Daniel Shouse of Carrollton, Kentucky. 

This is an ongoing investigation by KSP Post 5.
