East Louisville Fire

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was taken to the hospital after a fire in east Louisville early Sunday morning. 

It happened around 1 a.m., according to a news release from Salvador Melendez, the spokesperson for Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS. That's when crews were sent after reports of burning home in the 300 block of Barcelona Drive, off South English Station Road.

The first units were at the scene within five minutes of receiving the call. Flames were visible from the rear roof area of the two-story home when crews arrived. Crews quickly entered and began searching the home while working to contain the flames. 

One person was outside the home with "thermal injuries" when firefighters arrived. That person was stabilized at the scene and taken to UofL Health Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to the release. 

It took 34 firefighters 40 minutes to control the fire.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
