LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two people and two dogs were displaced Friday after a house fire in east Louisville.

Fire officials said crews from Anchorage-Middletown Fire & EMS and St. Matthews Fire responded to the 11200 block of Coventry Greens Drive just before noon on a reported house fire. That's in the Indian Springs subdivision, off Westport Road.

According to Salvador Melendez, a spokesperson for Anchorage-Middletown Fire & EMS, crews arrived on scene to find a one-story brick home engulfed in flames.

Melendez said crews entered the home to put out the fire. They helped rescue a dog, but had to exit the structure because of heavy fire and the possibility of collapse.

Crews then focused their attention on the exterior and protecting adjacent homes.

Melendez said a firefighter sustained a minor head injury when the house partially collapsed. He was treated at the scene and was able to remain on shift. Two adults were not home at the time. The home was deemed a total loss, Melendez said.

No other injuries were reported. It took 30 firefighters about an hour to control the flames, which originated in the garage. The cause is still under investigation.
