LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville roller skating rink that has welcomed generations of families for more than five decades could soon change hands, raising concerns about its future.

Robben's Roost is on the market after 55 years under the same ownership. The rink is one of only a handful still operating in Louisville, making its potential closure a concern for many who grew up skating there.

Now, one Metro Council member wants the city to step in before the rink disappears.

"This is one of only a couple skating rinks left in the city," Councilwoman Josie Raymond said. "We don't want this to turn into a gas station."

Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins encouraged the city to explore purchasing Robben's Roost to help preserve the longtime community destination and keep it open for future generations.

For decades, the rink has hosted birthday parties, family outings and community events.

It remains unclear whether the city will consider acquiring the property or what the next chapter holds for the popular skating rink.
