LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Dixie Highway Sunday morning.

John Bradley, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded to a crash in the 12000 block of Dixie Highway just before 10 a.m. That's near E. Orell Road.

Bradley said four vehicles were involved in the crash spanning both directions, killing two people.

The first vehicle was traveling south on Dixie Highway, changed lanes and hit a second vehicle also going south, Bradley said. The first vehicle then continued in the northbound lanes on Dixie Highway, hitting a third vehicle. The third vehicle then hit a fourth vehicle traveling north. The first vehicle hit a utility pole and came to a rest.

Bradley said the driver of the first vehicle died at the scene. Two people were in the second car, but no one was injured. The driver of the third vehicle had "critical injuries" and was taken to UofL Hospital where she died. The driver of the fourth vehicle was the only one in the car and was not injured.

Traffic in the area was shut down for hours. LMPD's Traffic Unit will continue the investigation.
