LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The $7 million rehab project on Hikes Lane is in its final stages of completion, a repair that was badly needed for the area.
"There were potholes everywhere; the road was pretty uneven," Corey Adkins, First Class Auto Service Manager, said. "If you drive in the wrong spot, don't pay attention, you're liable to break a part here and there."
After making repairs to cars, Adkins said they don't even test drive cars on Hikes Lane, which is right in front of the shop.
"Because the roads were uneven enough that with vibration or noise, that could've just been how bad the roads are," Adkins said.
After years of delays, the long overdue repairs of concrete panels are underway for a project that covers nearly three miles.
In his most recent newsletter, Metro Councilman Brent Ackerson wrote that many residents have raised concerns about the state of the road for years, and the rehab may be done by the end of October.
In the meantime, construction continues on a major road for neighborhoods that include Bon Air and Buechel.
The construction has caused some confusion for drivers trying to maneuver in between cones and lane changes.
"We have had customers who have decided to go elsewhere because of the construction," Adkins said.
But, all the work will lead to much needed long-term improvements, curb ramps and sidewalks and a smoother road.
Until work is done, Adkins has simple advice.
"Watch the signs and try to follow traffic," Adkins said.
