LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new class of officers have joined the ranks at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

Seven members of class 143 were sworn in Friday during a graduation ceremony.

The recruits started 11 weeks ago in the Academy, learning the ins and outs of the criminal justice system.

Mayor Craig Greenberg said they are now ready to help make the community better.

"Public service is not easy," Greenberg said. "Being a corrections officer is not easy. There will be challenging days and nights. Be ready when you are called upon and you will be called upon, act on your training with humility and courage."

The Louisville jail continues to try and fill a worker shortage at Metro Corrections.
