LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Actors Theatre of Louisville released the lineup for its 2026-27 season Thursday, including some new productions and a familiar favorite.
The season kicks off with "Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery," which runs Sept. 9-27, followed by "Dead as a Dodo" from Oct. 14 to Nov. 1.
Actors will kick off the holiday season with the return of "A Christmas Carol" from Nov. 28 to Dec. 20. A new production of the beloved classic sold out when it returned last year after a roughly five-year hiatus.
The new year kicks off with "Primary Trust" from Feb. 17-28, followed by the return of the theatre's "Storytelling Revolution Festival" from April 1-11.
The festival is community-centered featuring world premieres, readings, performances, dance-theatre and experimental artforms. The festival is designed for audiences to bounce between performances, gain insights and inspiration, and connect with different artists.
"We are stepping into this next chapter with so much joy," Amelia Acosta Powell, artistic director of Actors Theatre, said in a news release Thursday. "What excites us most is that there is something in this lineup for every kind of theatregoer: the person who has been coming for 30 years and the person who has never been at all. We built this season to welcome everyone, and to give them an unforgettable experience."
Acosta Powell took over as artistic director at the theatre in September 2025, following the departure of Robert Barry Fleming after five years in the role.
Also included in this season is the Theatre for the Very Young, as well as public learning opportunities and summer theatre camps for students, which are new this year.
Programs include "Stagecraft Tools for the Apocalypse: Theatre Skills for Survival, Sustainability and Maintaining Joy." It includes a series of workshops open to the public, including an adult musical theatre camp, a puppet workshop and more.
Summer theatre camps launch in July, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for $300 per week. This summer is the first for the theatre camps, which include four weeks of "professional, hands-on training for middle and high school students, led by working local theatre artists."
Memberships and subscriptions for the 2026-27 season are available now. Those who sign up for memberships get early access to tickets for all mainstage productions. Two subscription packages are also available, including the Opening Night Subscription and Sunday Matinee Subscription. The Opening Night Subscription includes reserved seats for opening night of every mainstage production. The Sunday Matinee Subscription includes first Sunday matinee seats for every mainstage production.
Actors Theatre, founded in 1964, is located at 316 W. Main St. in downtown Louisville. It is considered the official State Theatre of Kentucky.
