LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The executive director of Actors Theatre of Louisville is departing after five years in the role.
Robert Barry Fleming will pursue other creative and artistic opportunities, according to a news release Wednesday.
"Though the challenges of stewarding a regional theater through a global pandemic and the detrimental comprehensive impact it has had on our industry has been formidable for everyone in our field who care about and are dedicated to the American theatre, I'm nothing less than 'beyond-my-wildest dreams' grateful for the wonderful partnerships that have emerged and the sense of community and connecting across difference that has manifested from our collective efforts," Fleming said in a news release.
Fleming, a Frankfort, Kentucky, native, was recognized for his leadership by the Mellon Foundation last year. His tenure at Actors Theatre began in June 2019 after serving as director of artistic programming at Arena Stage and associate artistic director at Cleveland Play House. Under Fleming's direction, Actors Theatre has explored new ways to connect artists and audiences.Â
During Fleming's tenure, Actors Theatre launched the Storytelling (r)Evolution, utilized multimedia experiences like radio plays, a podcast, community conversations and full-length films.Â
Amelia Acosta Powell, the impact producer and co-director of artist programming, was appointed to interim artistic director. Emily Tarquin, the co-director of artistic programming, was appointed to interim managing director.
The theatre is located at 316 W. Main St. in downtown Louisville. To learn more about Actors Theatre, click here.Â
