LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's been nearly one year since a Louisville man was found shot and killed in the Clifton Heights neighborhood, but his family isn't any closer to learning what happened.

Victor Jones, 43, was identified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as the man killed in a shooting that happened in the 2700 block of Brownsboro Road on Jan. 18, 2024.

Jones was the victim of Louisville's fourth homicide of 2024.

"It'll be a year in the next couple of days, and no one has gotten back to us," said Muhammad Alif, the uncle of Jones.

Alif said one of his cousins called him at 3 a.m. to tell him Jones had been killed.

"I was stunned, heart pierced," Alif said. "I said well, you know, let me go be there for my sister, her son has been murdered."

Alif said Jones had six children and a grandson.

"It's surreal, surreal. It still hasn't hit," he said.

Jones' family recently doubled their reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible for killing Jones. It now totals $100,000.

The family has also hired a private investigator to assist.

"It was a step that needed to be taking place. ... We have to find this killer," said Alif.

While Alif is focused on finding the person responsible for killing his nephew, he also wants families of homicide victims left with unanswered questions to be supported. Whether that be financially, to help with the burden of losing a loved one, or hiring more police officers to get cases closed quicker.

Metro Louisville had 142 homicides in 2024. Of the cases Louisville Metro Police are investigating, the department's clearance rate is around 43%, according to a spokesperson.

"Let's get some help, you know, we need help here in Louisville," Alif said. "We have to be able to assist the people that don't know what has happened to their loved ones."

Earlier this month, LMPD said it is looking to hire up to 300 officers to fill vacancies across the department. While Alif acknowledges that police and the community are trying, he won't back down from advocating for the families of victims, including his own.

"We will find out who killed Victor Jones," Alif said.

Anyone who may have information in Jones' murder case, or any other case in Louisville, is urged to call LMPD's anonymous Crime Tip Line at (502) 574-LMPD (5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department's Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
