LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Seven school districts across the area placed ahead of JCPS, with the Anchorage Public School district as the highest ranking school district in the area.
Anchorage Public School
The Anchorage Public School ranked highest among local area schools. The district was ranked in the 99th percentile for the second consecutive year and was designated as a District of Distinction. The district is located in the northeast section of Jefferson County.
Oldham County Schools
When it comes to state testing, Oldham County continues to rank as one of the best in the state. Oldham County's school district ranks in the 98th percentile with an overall score of 75.5.
Superintendent William Wells credits teachers, principals, and even parents for the "Distinguished" ranking. “We really expect our parents to spend time with their children, reading with them 30 minutes a night if we can. Even parents that may not have books at home, we provide them books over the summer and teach parents how to read with their children. It makes all the difference in the world,” said Wells.
Goshen at Hillcrest Elementary School, East Oldham Middle School, and South Oldham High School placed the highest among schools within the district. Only LaGrange Elementary School received a ranking of "Needs Improvement."

- East Oldham Middle School – 74.5 “Distinguished/Progressing”
- South Oldham High School – 83.1 “Distinguished/Progressing”
- LaGrange Elementary School – 65.0 “Needs Improvement”
Spencer County Schools
Coming in next on the list was Spencer County with an overall score of 71 for the district and in the 89th percentile. They were given a "Proficient/Progressing" ranking. The top three Spencer County schools were Spencer County Elementary School, Spencer County Middle School, and Spencer County High School.
- Taylorsville Elementary received a ranking of "Needs Improvement."
- Spencer County Elementary School – 75.4 “Distinguished/Progressing”
- Spencer County Middle School – 68.7 “Proficient/Progressing”
- Spencer County High School – 71.9 “Proficient/Progressing”
- Taylorsville Elementary School – 67.8 “Needs Improvement”
"Spencer County Schools is pleased to announce that according to the release of K-Prep testing data by the Kentucky Department of Education, we are not only recognized as a Proficient District once again, Spencer County Schools will be celebrating the highest score that we have ever received as a district ranking us at the 89 percentile throughout the state,” said Spencer County Superintendent Chuck Adams.
Hardin County Schools
Hardin County schools ranked in the 83rd percentile with a score of 69.8 and had a "Proficient/Progressing" title. Rineyville Elementary School, East Hardin Middle School, and Central Hardin High School topped their list.
- Rineyville Elementary School – 76.8 “Distinguished/Progressing”
- East Hardin Middle School – 71.2 “Proficient”
- Central Hardin High School – 78.7 “Distinguished/Progressing”
Two elementary schools and two middle schools received a ranking of "Needs Improvement” with overall scores dropping.
- Howevally Elementary School
- Lakewood Elementary School
- James T. Alton Middle School
- North Middle School
“I am proud of our students, faculty and staff. We made increases and added three more schools to the list of proficient schools. We will keep our emphasis on continuous growth and learning for every student every day. The philosophy in our district is to stay focused on what matters most, making sure our students are ready for success in life,” said Hardin County Superintendent Nannette Johnston.
Shelby County Schools
Shelby County is in the 76th percentile, with a score of 68.5. Simpsonville Elementary, Shelby County West Middle, and and Shelby Co. High school all received a title of "Proficient/Progressing".
- Simpsonville Elementary – 71.1 “Proficient Progressing”
- Shelby County West Middle School – 68.6 “Proficient Progressing”
- Shelby County High School – 71.9 “Proficient Progressing”
Four elementary schools were given the title "Needs Improvement,” with scores dropping.
- Wright Elementary School
- Painted Stone Elementary School
- Southside Elementary School
- Heritage School
“We improved and are on a steady trajectory showing growth in our school district. Scores like these mean we are moving in a good direction, yet we know there are areas where we need to make more gains,” said Shelby County Superintendent James Neihof.
Bullitt County Schools
Bullitt County is in the 75th percentile with a score of 68.2. Pleasant Grove Elementary, Eastside Middle School, and Bullitt East High School all received high scores.
- Pleasant Grove Elementary School – 79.6 “Distinguished/Progressing”
- Eastside Middle School – 74.1 “Distinguished”
- Bullitt East High School – 74.1 “Proficient/Progressing”
Eight schools received a ranking "Needs Improvement".
- Maryville Elementary School
- Shepherdsville Elementary School
- Brooks Elementary School
- Old Mill Elementary School
- Roby Elementary School
- Bullitt Lick Middle School
- North Bullitt High School
- Bullitt Central High School
“We are very pleased with overall results, which validate the reforms of our instructional practices we have been undergoing the past several years. We are not nearly satisfied, and will conduct a thorough analysis of our results and use that data to assist our teachers in better serving our students and community,” said Bullitt County Superintendent Keith Davis.
Nelson County Schools
Coming in the 72nd percentile with a score of 67.8 overall is Nelson County. Bloomfield Elementary, Boston Middle School, and Thomas Nelson High School received top rankings.
- Bloomfield Elementary School – 72.1 “Proficient/Progressing”
- Boston Middle School – 70.7 “Proficient”
- Thomas Nelson High School – 70.9 “Proficient/Progressing”
- Only Nelson County High School received a ranking of "Needs Improvement.”
