LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Today, Thursday, May 14, marks 27 years since the tragic Carroll County bus crash.

It was the worst drunk driving crash in U.S. history.

On May 14, 1988, drunk driver Larry Mahoney went the wrong way on the interstate and hit a school bus head-on. The bus was carrying 67 people back to Radcliff from a church youth group field trip to Kings Island.

The crash killed 27 people, mostly children. Thirty-four more people were injured.
