LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Baptist Health will expand the emergency department at it's southern Indiana hospital.
Baptist Health Floyd is preparing for the $10.3 million project, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
The first phase of the project is expected to begin in August. It includes relocating the women's imaging center to a new designated area in the radiology department. Plans also include a new chapel on the first floor of the New Albany hospital.
The first phase is expected to be finished in December.
"This will allow us to accommodate and provide our patients with the level of care they need," Baptist Health Floyd President Mike Schroyer said in a news release. "We are also excited about constructing a new chapel that will be larger and readily accessible for our patients, families and staff near our main lobby."
Once the women's imaging center is relocated, its former space will be renovated to expand the hospital's emergency department by 20 beds. That's part of the second phase, which is expected to be completed by next June.
Baptist Health said the new beds will be used as emergency beds, observation beds or for patients waiting for an inpatient room. The hospital currently has 41 emergency department beds and 29 observation beds.
