SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Bullitt County teacher whose text messages led to a school lockdown has been fired.
According to Dusty Witherspoon's investigative file, the district says the Bullitt Central High School spanish teacher made inappropriate comments on Oct. 12 to students about her personal life and started throwing trash against a wall. Her termination letter says Witherspoon made comments, "telling the students you had contemplated suicide, if not attempted suicide." The letter says Witherspoon claimed she was, "... a prophet from God here to save the nations."
The district says her bizarre behavior led to her being referred to a mental health evaluation and a drug evaluation. The letter says Witherspoon tested positive for marijuana, which violates a school board policy.
While she was suspended with pay, investigators say she went to the school and was told she wasn't supposed to be there. Police say she sent a text message to another employee, making threats which led to a soft lockdown. The text said: "I'm about to (expletive) some (expletive) up...if they wanna get ugly it's going to get reeeaaalll ugly. I'm at my limit. I've put up with enough (expletive). I'm done."Â
She was arrested and charged with terrorist threatening and criminal trespassing on October 31st and fired that same day. Witherspoon was hired in January.
School officials say Witherspoon is appealing her termination through the tribunal process.Â
