LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A major downtown Louisville building could soon be transformed into hundreds of student housing units as part of a $63 million redevelopment project.
According to our partners at Louisville Business First, American Development Corp. plans to convert the Jefferson Education Center at 200 W. Broadway into a large student housing complex designed to serve nearby Jefferson Community and Technical College students.
The proposal includes 431 beds across renovated and newly constructed space, along with a new parking structure and underground parking. Some current uses inside the building, including JCTC administrative offices and the campus bookstore, are expected to remain.
Renovations on the existing structure could begin later this year, with new construction targeted for early 2027. If the timeline stays on track, students could begin moving in before the fall 2028 semester.
The project would be funded through a mix of private investment and roughly $50 million in tax-exempt bonds.
