LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Buckhead Mountain Grill is closing its landmark restaurant in Jeffersonville, Indiana, after 23 years.
In a post on social media, the owners said the waterfront restaurant will permanently close on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 10 p.m.
"It has been an incredible journey and we are honored to have been part of this community for over two decades," the post says. "We would like to thank our guests, staff, vendors and the entire southern Indiana community for making Buckhead such a special place for family and friends over the years."
Buckhead Mountain Grill has been a fixture on the waterfront and a hot spot for Thunder Over Louisville viewing for years. Now, Upland Brewing announced it is moving to that location.
Dave Bower, with Upland Brewing, said Upland will take ownership in two weeks and they hope to be open in time for Thunder. There will be lots of seating and a full kitchen with a local-focused menu.
Bower said the full-service concept will be similar to locations already in Bloomington, Columbus and Fountain Square.
"Definitely big shoes to fill but we are bringing a lot of energy to this project," Bower said. "We've got a lot of work to do between now and when we open, but it's gonna be a great journey and we can't wait to crack open some beers with some new friends come this spring."
Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore said this project is a big deal for Jeffersonville.
"I'm thrilled that developers and investors see Jeffersonville as a hot market..." Moore said. "You're going to have a cool, fun place to drink a beer, get a nice meal, linger around Jeffersonville. You've got the walking bridge right there, I want to continue on with the Greenway. We'd like to take the Greenway down in front of the location."
The Buckhead Mountain Grill on Bardstown Road in Louisville closed in July, after COVID-19 restrictions cut business. It had been in the Gardiner Lane Shopping Center for 25 years.
The post says Buckhead will still have a location in Bellevue, Kentucky.
