LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you’re crossing into Louisville this weekend, expect detours — the Kennedy Bridge will be closed overnight Friday.
All southbound lanes of Interstate 65 on the bridge will close overnight Friday for bridge work, according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The closure begins at 8 p.m. Friday and lasts through 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
Drivers coming from Jeffersonville should take Interstate 265 West to Interstate 64 East to reconnect with I-65 South into Louisville.
Crews will perform steel repairs underneath the bridge that require the structure to remain completely still.
They’ll also finish striping work on the new roadway surface just south of the bridge.
The right three lanes and shoulder of the Kennedy Bridge are already closed for ongoing construction and are expected to stay that way through December.
The $6.9 million project is expected to be finished by April 2026.
