LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Apple devices are big sellers during back to school sales and again when the new iPhone goes on sale. But what if you really didn't need to buy one, but just needed a new battery?

With the iPhone 17 expected to arrive in early September, many people will start considering one.

If your phone is in good shape, a simple battery swap could save you hundreds of dollars.

It's easy to check the battery life on your phone. All you have to do is click "Battery Health and Charging" under your Settings to see what percentage you're at.

For $75-$100, a new battery can give your phone potentially two more years of life.

So when it comes down to it, when should you buy a new phone?

If your buttons or screen is damaged, that's a no brainer. Also, if it's no longer supported, like an iPhone 6 or 7.
