LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Is orange juice part of your morning routine? If it is, you may need to buy more of it.

News flash: it's shrinking. Again!

By now, "shrinkflation" is part of the American vocabulary, as manufacturers shrink items to keep price hikes down.

Orange juice was recently reported at $4.28 a jug, which is double its price from April 2020.

Why? There is less orange production in Florida and Brazil, the two biggest producers, due to weather and a bacterial disease called citrus greening.

A new report from Consumerworld said Tropicana is holding the line on another price hike by shrinking its container.

The old familiar jug is 52 ounces, while the new slimmer jug is 46 ounces.

Another option to get more for your money is apple juice, which is 15% cheaper. Or you can try a blend, like orange-apple juice or orange-cranberry juice.

After we reached out for this story, Tropicana shared this statement:

“At Tropicana, the consumer is always at the center of our decision making. Because of that, we are redesigning our packaging to directly address their concerns around ease of opening, ease of handling, storage and desire for less plastic, as well as offering more affordable juice options. This includes shifting from a 52 oz to 46 oz multi-serve option, which is rolling out to store shelves now and costs less than our previous 52oz products. The MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) for our 46oz orange juice is $3.99 vs $4.69 for the 52oz, and $2.99 vs $3.39 for juice drinks.”
