LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville police say coordination and technology helped officers safely bring a stolen vehicle to a stop on Interstate 65 near downtown.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, detectives from the Criminal Interdiction Division identified the stolen vehicle before it entered I-65 South.

Officers then worked with SWAT and the department’s Drone First Responder program to track the car.

Police said traffic was briefly shut down as SWAT officers deployed a grappler device, a vehicle-stopping tool designed to entangle a car’s wheel and bring it to a controlled stop.

Authorities said both individuals inside the vehicle attempted to flee. One suspect was taken into custody immediately, while the second was tracked by a police drone and arrested shortly afterward.

Detectives said they recovered two firearms. Police said both suspects are convicted felons.

No crashes or injuries were reported.
