LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Once known for ultra-cheap prices and viral shopping hauls, discount site Temu is facing increased scrutiny this holiday season as prices rise and legal challenges grow.
Temu and other fast-fashion platforms surged in popularity last year, drawing shoppers with steep discounts on clothing, household items and gadgets. But many consumers say the deals are no longer what they used to be.
Tariffs that took effect earlier this year have played a role, with shoppers reporting gradual price increases since spring. Some say prices on certain items have nearly doubled.
Adding to concerns, Temu is now facing a lawsuit filed by the Arizona Attorney General. The lawsuit alleges the company collects personal data from users’ phones, sells items that don’t match descriptions and offers counterfeit products. Temu has denied the allegations and says it will defend itself.
Consumer complaints also include product quality issues and rising prices, pushing some shoppers back to traditional retailers like Walmart and Amazon.
While deals can still be found, experts recommend comparing prices, reading reviews and understanding return policies before buying.
