LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The first phase of a $2.5 million Riverside Expansion Project at Farnsley-Moremen Landing in southwest Louisville is finished.
The project to expand and upgrade Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing visitors center, began in February 2025.Â
Tuesday, leaders celebrated what the vision has become with the newly-renovated center, which opens the door for larger events, conferences, performances and weddings.
"These improvements allow us to better serve the community in many ways," Michelle King, executive director of Louisville Parks & Recreation, said in a news release Tuesday. "Riverside is an active and cherished gathering place, and an expanded visitors center gives us the flexibility to host more events, welcome more guests, and continue offering meaningful educational programming in a space that reflects he beauty of the site itself."
Upgrades include new restrooms, a new catering prep area for more high-quality events, as well as dressing rooms and a patio with a view of the Ohio River.Â
"This is more than a construction project. It's more than bricks," said Metro Councilperson Crystal Bast, R-District 14. "It's beams and blueprints, and it's investment in gathering in connection and the future of this community."
The expansion marks the first renovation of the visitor center since it was originally completed in 1993.
A free celebration of the new event space is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 7. The event features music, door prizes, local food vendors and more.
The next phase of the project will enhance the museum and educational spaces in the building.
Riverside board members raised nearly $1 million for the expansion, and the city allocated $1.5 million from its general fund.
