LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- New details released Tuesday provide more information about what needs to happen before the Givaudan plant in Louisville's Clifton neighborhood can be torn down.

The manufacturing plant exploded in November, killing two people and injuring several others.

Givaudan said the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection is still in control of the site, and demolition can't start until the site is released back to the company.

The company said it has reached out to the city to learn more about the next steps in the demolition process. Officials with the company met with city leaders earlier this month to talk about requirements for the demolition work and a list of contacts from the departments that will be involved in the work.

Once it gets that information, Givaudan will start taking bids for demolition, and gather any required permits for the work. A company will then be selected, and a demolition plan will be established.

Givaudan said evidence for pending and potential legal action will have an impact on when demolition can actually begin.

The company said it will not begin demolition without notifying neighbors. Crews will begin removing bulk products that remain in tanks at the plant site in the coming weeks.

Officials said that will likely happen before the pre-demolition actions are finished. The removal was approved by the Chemical Safety Board, which will monitor the process.
