LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A major shift could be coming to downtown Louisville’s banking scene.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is considering a move to Main Street, with plans to invest more than $1 million into a potential new primary branch, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.

The company is looking at space inside the former LG&E Center at 220 W. Main St. City permit filings show plans to transform part of the first floor into a modern retail banking space, including interior renovations, new entryways and an added ATM. The project is estimated to cost about $1.2 million.

Chase currently operates its main downtown branch on West Jefferson Street. It's unclear whether the company would keep that location or relocate.

The move could add to growing momentum at the former LG&E Center. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is expected to bring hundreds of employees into the building later this year as part of a major redevelopment effort.

Chase is the second-largest bank in the Louisville area based on local deposits.
