LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kroger announced plans for a $1.25 million investment in the West Broadway store.
The money will increase shelving and update the décor, lighting and exterior signage.
Officials said the remodel will also come with an improved variety in fresh foods. Kroger also announced an increase in wages at the store.
Due to a $500,000 investment into increased wages, courtesy clerks will start at $14.70 an hour and department leaders will start at $25.85.
“We are proud to be part of the West Louisville community since 1929,” said Division President Jake Cannon in a news release. “We recognize Kroger’s unique role in the communities that we serve. We are committed to serving our west Louisville neighborhood as an employer, grocery retailer, healthcare provider and more. We have a responsibility to create positive change and deliver on Our Purpose to Feed the Human Spirit with affordable, fresh food and friendly service.”
In June, two Louisville Metro Council members questioned why the Kroger on West Broadway began closing early.Â
Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins, D-1, said she met with Kroger management and was told the store will stay open until 9 p.m., but people need to stop stealing.
"So please, if we want Kroger to be here, we can not go in here and rip this Kroger off," Hawkins said at the time.
Local residents told WDRB that the store wouldn't always stay open until 9 p.m.
It hasn't been announced when the remodel would begin.
