And it's all not just for a good deal. Eating dinner at one of the 26 participatingĀ restaurants gives back to aspiring chefs.

Edneisha Cardine and her 10 classmates in the Common Table program will spend eight weeks in Louisville whipping up everything from gumbo to honey glazed chicken.

"I always love cooking," Cardine said Friday. "It reminds me of being in the kitchen with grandma."

There are never too many cooks in the kitchen for the Louisville nonprofit, which aims to reduce poverty through culinary arts training.

"Sometimes, people just need opportunity and access," said Makeda, Freeman-Woods, director of Common Table. "That's what we're here to do."

$1 from every meal purchased at one of the participating restaurants helps fuel the fire for the nonprofit's aspiring chefs, like Cardine. She currently cooks for her mom's day care but hopes to someday open her own place.

"I already got a name for the kitchen: The Heart Attack," Cardine said. "Ain'tĀ nothing healthy about my restaurant."
