LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Businesses in Louisville's Rubbertown neighborhood joined New Birth Church to hold a back-to-school bash Sunday at Cane Run Elementary School.
Barbers were on hand to cut kids' hair before the first day of school, and health resources were also available along with free school essentials.
This is the 14th year for the event, which was open to students K-12.
"It's important," said Ebony Pryor, organizer for the event. "We know, in this economy, that people need help and they need assistance. So we're just trying to lighten the load, making sure that you have the basic necessities — the backpack, paper, crayons, things like that."
There were also free vision tests and several vendors offering services.
