LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new Wawa is open in Louisville.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday at 5229 Dixie Highway, not far from Lower Hunters Trace.
The celebration included free T-shirts for the first 100 customers, free hot coffee, and a charitable hoagie building competition between local first responders.
The store on Dixie Highway is Kentucky's fifth Wawa store, and the third in Louisville. Other Louisville locations include 9650 Preston Crossing Boulevard and 4310 Bardstown Road.
Throughout the next eight years, Wawa plans to build and open four to eight new stores per year in Kentucky with plans to open more than 40 stores in the state.
Each store will employ an average of 35 associates, with Wawa expecting to create 1,400 new long-term new jobs in Kentucky.
The first regional store opened in Clarksville, Indiana last May on Veterans Parkway.
