LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Michelin North America is investing $50 million at American Synthetic Rubber Company to build a natural gas boiler facility in Louisville's Rubbertown neighborhood.
The rubber company is off Camp Ground Road. The new facility is expected to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins, D-1, said she hopes it improves the air quality in her district.
"Let's be clear, I live around here. So the quality of life, you know, the quality of life is so vital," Hawkins said Thursday. "So that's important, especially with the air pollution issue that we've been having for quite some time down here, right in this area and a little past Park Duvalle and Algonquin."
A model shows what the new boiler facility will look like. Michelin said this will bring better air quality, the elimination of coal ash waste and less water usage.
The facility is expected to be finished in 2026.
