LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nanz and Kraft Florists invites the community to help it celebrate 175 years as a family-owned business.
In a news release Friday, the florist said it was started by German horticulturist Henry Nanz, who made his home in Louisville. In 1850, he opened a florist business that was basically a small greenhouse at first. Nanz eventually opened a shop on 3rd Street and sold fruit trees and cut flowers. It grew from there.
Nanz daughter Sally married Henry A. Kraft Jr. By 1895, their son, Henry, took over the business. In 1958, the company assumed the name Nanz & Kraft Florists. It has continued to pass through the Kraft family. A more detailed history of the business is on their website.
