LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A popular Chicago-style hot dog restaurant in St. Matthews is for sale, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago is located at 121 St. Matthews Avenue near Shelbyville Road. Diane Edwards, co-owner of the restaurant, said she and her husband Lonnie plan to retire in October.
The restaurant is on the market, but if a buyer isn't found, it will close permanently.
“Our plan is to close mid-October—that’s when our lease is up. We do not own the building, so we’re trying to sell the brand, not the building,” Edwards said to Louisville Business First. “Our regular customers are happy we are retiring, but they’re sad because they’re going to miss the food. They can’t find this food anywhere else.”
The restaurant is known for hot dogs, beef sandwiches, burgers and gyros.
The price of the restaurant is negotiable. The restaurant, which first opened in 2001 on Westport Road, doesn't have any employees.
“Right now, it’s just me and Lonnie," Edwards said. "We do have volunteers from our church, but because we’re retiring, we didn’t want to take on any new employees. We used to have about five or six."
