LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The U.S. Postal Service will relocate a Louisville-area post office after it lost the lease on its current location.

The post office at 9523 U.S. Highway 42 in Prospect, Kentucky, will be relocated, officials said in a news release Friday.

USPS sent postcards to community members last April, asking for their input on a relocation.

The agency said it "carefully considered the concerns and comments received from the public," and has decided to move forward with relocating the post office.

The new location won't be too far away. It will be located at 9217 U.S. Highway 42 in Prospect.

USPS said "a loss of lease" at the current location forced the Postal Service to begin looking for a new location.

Services provided at the new location are anticipated to remain the same, officials said.

The current location will remain open through July 31. After that, a "temporary mobile retail unit" will be put in the parking lot at the current location or the new location. Officials said the mobile unit will operate as a post office until the new location is finished.

"While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Prospect community, we properly considered community input, and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives," USPS said in Friday's news release.
