LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) ā Mail delays in Louisville have drawn the attention of the federal government, as the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (OIG) is now conducting four separate audits in the city.
Looking at USPS audits across the nation, Louisville is the only city with four active USPS audits happening at the same time. Each audit is focused on a specific facility, and investigators were on-site last week gathering information and data.

One of the facilities under review is the Louisville Processing and Distribution Center. That audit is aimed at evaluating the efficiency of the centerās operations.
Back in January, WDRB Investigates obtained video from the Gardiner Lane location that showed bins full of undelivered mail. While the USPS initially blamed the delays on snowy weather, residents say the issues have persisted.
In addition to the distribution center, the OIG is also auditing the Pleasure Ridge Park Branch, Middletown Branch, and Iroquois Station. OIG says those audits focus on delivery operations and property conditions.
Investigators say they're now using a combination of on-site observations and data analytics to complete their reports.
A USPS service performance map from the first quarter of fiscal year 2025 shows Kentucky ā grouped with West Virginia ā ranks as the 10th worst region in the country for on-time delivery of first-class mail, with just 77.5% arriving on time.
Louisville resident Lauren Renaud told WDRB that on March 5, she mailed 104 wedding invitations from the Prospect post office.
Nearly a month later, Renaud says only about five of the invitations have been delivered and most were only mailed locally to Louisville and Cincinnati addresses.
"My invitations are irreplaceable. I handmade each and every invitation. I spent countless hours and hundreds of dollars on supplies and postage. How is it possible that envelopes mailed in Prospect have not been delivered to Louisville addresses a month later. At this point I'm questioning if they will ever be delivered," Renaud said "I am getting married in Louisville next month and my experience with the post office has been extremely disruptive and disappointing for a city of this size."
WDRB has heard from a lot of people about ongoing mail delays.
"Mail is still delayed as you can see my package went from Louisville to Sellersburg back to Louisville then to Arizona and now just shows moving through," a woman said.
"We ordered baby chicks which shipped on 3/26 arrived in Indy on 3/27 and then sent to Louisville," a man said. "Louisville USPS let them sit until Monday when they were delivered. Sadly they all died. They were shipped priority and should have been delivered no later than Saturday."
Congressman Morgan McGarvey's office told WDRB it continues to receive about a dozen calls each week from constituents reporting mail delays.
The OIG says it expects to release its findings from the Louisville audits in June.
