LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Changes around the Jefferson Mall are making way for a new wholesale club.
Drivers along the Outer Loop in Okolona have seen part of the mall being demolished. A wrecking permit was issued to tear down the former Sears building.
BJ's Wholesale Club said it is opening its first Kentucky location next year in Louisville. Public records show plans call for the wholesale club to replace the former Sears anchor building.
In a news release, the company's executive vice president, Bill Werner, said the store will offer value and convenience.
"Our expansion into Kentucky allows us to deliver unbeatable value and savings of up to 25% off grocery store prices every day," he said.
BJ's Wholesale Club said the store will include fresh foods, a full-service deli and household products. There will also be a gas station.
The store is expected to open near the Jefferson Mall in early 2025 and bring about 150 new jobs. Hiring is expected to begin soon. To find out more about BJ's Wholesale Club, click here.
