LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Has all your mail arrived at its destination? If not, you may have accidentally bought counterfeit stamps.

Krista Folzenlogan owns a stationery shop and sees the problem everyday.

"For me personally it's a huge problem all year when it comes to wedding invitations," Folzenlogan said.

It is nearly impossible to tell the difference between real stamps and counterfeit ones.

Folzenlogan bought a pack of discounted stamps from a site to see if she could tell the difference.

She is warning all of her clients to be suspicious of any stamps being sold for much less than face value.

As the problem grows, the USPS is fighting back against counterfeit postage.

Any items mailed with fake stamps are now subject to being open, then thrown away.

The USPS says you can protect yourself from the scam by:

  • Purchasing stamps only from the post office.
  • Use the official USPS site.

If a letter is important, like a wedding invitation, bill, or tax document, make sure you are using official USPS stamps to guarantee delivery. That way, you don't waste your money.
