LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Thunder Over Louisville returns this April after a brief hiatus.
People will gather on both sides of the river to watch planes, drones and fireworks high in the sky on Saturday, April 18, for the 37th year of Thunder Over Louisville.
This year's theme will be "Thunder in the USA" to honor the nation's 250th anniversary. From the music and the fireworks to military aircraft involved, it'll be a celebration of all things red, white and blue.
"It is so special," Alex Lyons said. "It's something that makes this place very unique, and I'm so happy to live here."
Lyons can't wait for the big celebration to begin. Flooding in April 2025 canceled Thunder Over Louisville, so this is the first time she's able to share this experience with her toddler.
The family-friendly fun fuels a business boom on both sides of the river.
Ramiro Gandara said he's "very excited" for the event to return. His restaurant, Ramiro's Cantina, lost thousands of dollars when Thunder Over Louisville was called off last year.
"Sales-wise, we lost $120,000 to $130,000," Gandara said. "We count on that money."
This year, he's cooking up something extra special. Ramiro's Cantina will have food trucks, a beer tent, churros and ice cream spread out across downtown Jeffersonville. He's already stocked up on tortillas, chips, soda and beer.
Down the street, Upland Brewing is selling seats for one of the best views of the show. Tickets start at just shy of $200 before taxes.
"We're almost sold out," manager Caty Satori said. "I think it'll be great. It's our best day of the year."
Thunder On the Ground opens at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18. The air show begins at 3 p.m.
The drone show kicks off at 9 p.m. and the fireworks follow at 9:30 p.m. For more information on Thunder Over Louisville, click here.
