LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In honor of Oldham County's Bicentennial, another Kentucky Black Trailblazer was showcased.

Saturday was the dedication for those who help paved the way in the Commonwealth.

Eliza Brooks was featured Saturday morning. Brooks and her family escaped slavery and fled to Indiana. It's a tour of augmented reality where history and research is the focus.

Here's how it works:

  • People scan QR codes at 19 spots across the state.
  • That launches an augmented reality scene to learn about that person.
  • Some of the highlighted Kentuckians include Muhammad Ali, and Oliver Lewis, the jockey who won the first Kentucky Derby.
  • There are codes in Bardstown, Oldham County, Shepherdsville, Shelby County, Elizabethtown, and Louisville.

"We learned about Eliza Brooks that way, from her great granddaughter and we had a small about of records so we just went in and dug a little deeper to figure out what her contribution was to Oldham County's history," Oldham County Tourism Executive Director Kim Hydes said.

All six tourism agencies partnered on the project and received federal ARPA grant funds distributed by the Kentucky Department of Tourism to assist with funding the project.
