LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Christmas gift shared with co-workers in Bowling Green turned into a $50,000 win at the Kentucky Lottery.

Sheila Colter, a second shift supervisor at Med Center Health Environmental Services, gave Kentucky Lottery Scratch-offs to her team for the holidays.

The lottery tickets were a well-timed gift.

"Our work Christmas party was early this year," Colter told Kentucky Lottery officials. "I had ordered some items online, but they didn’t come in before the party. So, I decided to get Scratch-offs instead."

Colter bought less expensive Scratch-offs, along with $30 tickets to share. They won $50 from the $30 lottery ticket, so she bought a $50 Millionaire Club Scratch-off. That ticket won $100, so Colter bought two more tickets, and one of the plays won the game's second prize of $50,000.

"We kept playing as a group. There are 21 of us," Colter said. "I would stop on the way to work, and we kept winning."

There were 14 employees who won $50,000.

"We were all so excited," Colter said. "I was on the floor."

Colter plans to use her portion of the winnings to finish up her Christmas shopping.

Winnie Beckman joined Colter on her trip to Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville to collect the winning. Beckman passed her citizen test while visiting Louisville.

It was an impactful win for Beckman. Her mother was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

"I'm going to use it for my mom's medicine," Beckman told Kentucky Lottery officials. "This will help a lot. And I will never forget this."

After taxes, the group will split up $35,750 of winnings. Each employee will receive around $1,750.

IGA Express on US 31 W Bypass in Bowling will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
