LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Cicadas have been all the buzz in our area for the last few weeks, but now another bug is taking over Kentucky.

The cicada killer wasp is emerging from their underground habitats in Kentucky, usually showing up around July or August, reported by Fox56.

The insects are larger than a normal wasp, with the females reaching up to two inches long.

While the cicada killer wasps may be big and imposing, researchers at the University of Kentucky said they typically will not harm people unless they bother them.

The insects are called cicada killer wasps because they come out every year just to kill cicadas, delivering a paralyzing sting to its prey.
