LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A county in southern Indiana is getting millions of dollars to help fix an erosion problem along the Ohio River shoreline.
U.S. Representative Erin Houchin, R-Ind., 9th District, secured $2 million in federal funding to address ongoing shoreline erosion in Clark County. The funds were included in the 2026 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill signed into law earlier this year, according to a release.
Local officials said nearly 100 yards of land was lost since the installation of the McAlpine Locks and Dam in 1963. The erosion damaged infrastructure, limited river access for emergency services and threatened recreational areas.
The federal funding will go to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop a stabilization plan for the shoreline.
The project is critical to protecting key developments like Origin Park and its upcoming $20 million expansion.
