LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Clark County Sheriff will seek reelection in 2026.

Sheriff Scottie Maples announced his plan for reelection on Wednesday. He is currently serving his first term as the county's sheriff.

Maples is a more than 15-year veteran of the Clark County Sheriff's Office. He's held a variety of positions since he started as a corrections officer and rose to the position of chief deputy before running for sheriff.

"Over the past two years, we’ve faced challenges and obstacles head-on and accomplished so much as an agency," Maples said in a news release. "But there’s still more to do, and I want to keep the momentum going."

The previous sheriff, Jamey Noel, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 27 felonies in October. Noel, 53, pleaded guilty to theft, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, money laundering, corrupt business influence and official misconduct Aug. 26

In 2022, Maples won with 65% of the vote. It was a race many people paid close attention to, as a lawsuit claims more than two dozen women were assaulted inside the county jail.

"Our team has worked hard to return professionalism and integrity to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office," Maples said. "We’ve made strides in building trust with the community, improving public safety, and creating a department we can all be proud of."
