MILTON, Ky. (WDRB) -- Five days after an EF-2 tornado ripped through the town of Milton, Kentucky, neighbors are banding together to pick up the pieces.

Five days ago, trees were firmly planted in the ground ready to show their leaves this spring. While only a pile of trees remains, it shows what a town can do when they work together.

Donnie Williams took a picture of the tornado coming down the Ohio River seconds before he ran into his basement.

William's house has been flooded at least twice, witnessed three tornadoes and remains standing. The path the storm took was too close for comfort.

Well, the sound, I knew it sounded like a jet engine. I knew that was not a regular high windstorm coming when I got into the cellar. It was a matter of seconds and all the trees that you see around here were down in 15 seconds, they all went down at the same time,” said Williams.

By the time he emerged from his cellar, the storm was headed towards Carrol Coghill's front door. WDRB News spoke with Coghill shortly after the storm last week. On Tuesday, all of the debris scattered around his yard had been cleared. The insulation and lumber that invaded his house sits in a neat pile in the driveway. His roof is covered with a tarp, a pile of lumber sits in the driveway ready to rebuild.

Back in town, there were no idle hands on Tuesday. The clean-up around the Milton Christian Church is almost finished.

"A lot of volunteers have come together, cleaned a lot of things up. I mean, our community has pulled together and cleaned things up, so it has really been nice, we know we have a solid foundation here in our community,” said church volunteer Nathan Shelton.
